Mangoes, Guavas, Coconuts, Soursop, as an island girl, they were all a huge part of my childhood! My grandmother had every imaginable tree in her yard! In fact, the great expanse of her garden and variety of herbs, fruit trees, vegetables, leafy greens, chickens, geese, goats and other animals had me thinking my Grandmother’s garden was the garden of Eden!!! Seriously, that is what I thought.
There was a shady part in the middle of her garden where the huge tamarind tree spread it’s branches, there were other plants around it, but right dead center, under the tamarind tree was a West Indian Cherry tree! The distance between both trees made me feel that this is where the conversation with Eve and the Serpent went down, so as a child, I always thought the Serpent tempted Eve with a cherry!! :):)
We spent Summers with my Grandmother during the day before our parents picked us up after work! I learned so many tips and tricks about healthy living from my Granny! One practice that I distinctly remember is after every vacation before heading back to school Granny ensured that our parents gave us a clean out! This involved a lot of fruits, veggies, herbs, aloe vera, castor oil (yuck) and teas!
This was such a part of me, so when I studied Holistic Health and Wellness, it felt like my Granny was sitting with me giving me the answers! It is so important more than ever to take time to let our bodies rest and be purged from the build up of toxins resulting from junk food, meats, treats and sweets!
